Redefining SLC's Warehouse District

The Charles is Salt Lake City's premier, luxury, mixed-family community in the heart of Phase 1 in the West Quarter. When The Ritchie Group first approached Open Range, they wanted an interior design celebrating the New Orleans jazz scene of the 1920s. Our commercial team took that note and ran with it, creating community spaces (like the sip-and-store wine cellar, rooftop lounge, or co-working spaces that fit any work style) that invite residents in.

A Respite in the Desert

When Marriott Bonvoy was ready for a more modern take on its extended-stay, Residence Inn location in Sedona, Arizona, they turned to the Open Range team for stylish updates to its shared dining, outdoor seating, meeting and gym spaces. Using the brand’s characteristically blue palate as a starting point, we were able to create brand cohesion while also weaving in local elements to make the space feel more like home.

Elegant, Classical Healthcare

Very few people look forward to going to the orthodontist, so when the Horsley Orthodontics practice came to Open Range for guidance on their waiting and patient rooms, we knew the design would need to be clean, yet also infuse a sense of comfort and warmth that is often missing in healthcare settings. By pairing muted wall color palettes with splashes of gold and dark blue, we were able to move away from sterile and clinical to a fresh, warm and inviting healthcare space.

Midtown 360 is a luxury apartment complex that distinguishes itself through its amenities, including a cutting-edge gym, a screening room, enticing indoor and outdoor public gathering spaces, and a front lobby that makes you want to pack your belongings and move right in.  To play off of that vibe in its community spaces, we incorporated architectural elements that help create distinct spaces, bold colors (check out the navy ceiling), decorative lighting, and a dichotomy of hard and soft best captured by the airy drapery set behind angular furniture.

The Arboretum at Barber Station is an upscale multi-family community whose interiors feature a touch of nature. When you have a view like this Cottonwood Heights’ family, the design aesthetic needs a touch of glamour. The Open Range team leapt at the challenge, incorporating pops of bold color, touch-worthy fabrics and several custom furniture pieces over a clean base palate. We carried over a cohesive look across the family house - including the kitchen, dining, primary living room, as well as the primary bedroom and the basement game room - while observing the practical needs and limitations of the space.

Travel-Inspired Craftsman

Inspired by their recent travels, this Bountiful, Utah family brought in the Open Range residential team to help pull everything together in their full-house renovation. The bones of this sturdy craftsman were strong, but the client needed help finding a palate that would match the style of the home, bring the outdoors in, and capture the mood from their travels. Our team, in partnership with the homeowners, hit the nail on the head with the kitchen...literally! The beautiful distressed hood, featuring rivets and bands of color, helps the family feel at home while creating sweet treats in their kitchen. Another project favorite? The brick wall in the primary bedroom and the accompanying architectural, curved wall with columns, help with the transition into the adjoining seating area.

We gave this Spanish Colonial in Federal Heights a traditional facelift that felt authentic to the original home, with an upscale, modern-day touch. One of our favorite tools in that transformation - several tapestries in the wrought-iron stairway that play off of the traditional stair runner and wooden ceiling vaulting in the front foyer. The vibrant patterns woven throughout the project are the icing on the cherry.

Going from Tuscan styling to Ultra-Modern is no small feat! It requires a creative eye to reimagine the space and a clear vision to bring it all together. That's what our residential team was able to do on this Holladay, Utah stunner. The key to our transformation: opening up the floor plan by taking down several non-weight bearing walls and moving the color palette away from wooden floors and paneled walls to sleek, large-format porcelain tiles and white walls. It can be a tightrope, mixing the clients' wants with the original architecture of the home. Still, the transformation in the kitchen, with the waterfall feature on the island and textured wall detailing, truly highlights how a clear vision and focus can carry the day.
